Don’t think it can’t happen to you! Vehicle recovery is by far the most important consideration when planning to go off road, so, for every situation we have recovery equipment that will get you out of trouble and back home. This essential part of your travel kit should never be underestimated.
BASIC RECOVERY EQUIPMENT
Your basic recovery kit should consist of all the items required to get you out of trouble with the aid of another vehicle. Items such as Snatch Straps, Bow Shackles, a Strap/Cable Dampener and a pair of Leather Gloves are all you need if you are a basic 4wheel driver and always travel with company. When attaching equipment to your vehicle always ensure that you are attaching to rated recovery points or distribute the load as evenly as possible by using an Equaliser Strap. These straps are designed to have both ends attached to the vehicle towing points on either side and pull from the middle of the strap.
If you like to be more adventurous and play a solo game then the stakes are much higher if you get into trouble. You need to be fully self sufficient and be able to get yourself out of any situation. In addition to the basics you will need to consider a Winch (electric or manual), additional straps such as Winch Extension and Tree Protector, a Snatch Block to run the winch cable through and the list goes on.

Self Recovery Devices are just that. Devices that allow you to extract your bogged vehicle yourself. These may be as simple and effective as a pair of recovery planks to drive up onto and out of trouble or an electric winch for when there just is no chance of driving out. A versatile piece of equipment, the Hi lift or Recovery Jack coupled with the recovery base on soft and uneven surfaces will provide a means of lifting the vehicle to aid recovery. Possibly one of the oldest recovery tools around it has proven itself time and again as an important part of any kit, but beware, its design can make them extremely unstable and the upmost care and attention to saftey must be followed.

The hand winch is a great accessory for any adventurer. More versatile than an electric winch, the hand winch allows you to extricate your vehicle from almost any angle. Sometimes going back the way you came is better than the track ahead. Hand winches will generally have two different load ratings on them, the lower of the two is a lifting capacity while the higher is the pulling capacity. Coupled with a snatch block, the hand winch will even pull a full sized 4WD out of a bog.

Think of an electric winch as a risk management tool when venturing to remote locations and upping the stakes of your 4WD adventure. Our range of electric winches have even more power for increased line speed and faster recovery. Ranging in size, from 9000lb up to the massive 15000lb, tried and tested to our own high standards we have a winch to suit most vehicles and budgets. When selecting the right winch it is important to choose the correct pulling capacity, a winch that is too light will simply stall out and leave you stuck with a potentially burnt out motor while a winch with too high of a rating can in some cases cause damage to the vehicle. Always check with your bull bar manufacturer as to the winch capacity that the bar was made for.
